Being a Product Manager for 9 years you can undoubtedly say that Product management is something that I always wanted to do. Having a background in business management, sales and marketing is a big plus for me. It helps me understand the market dynamics and it’s easier for me to navigate through the product vision, discovery and planning stages. I am Shalin Shukla and I am a founder and product manager in a SaaS (Software as a Service) development company. I started my career as a sales engineer in an industrial automation company. Developing software was always my passion. At the age of 19, I designed and developed software using Visual Basic 6 & MS Access for students appearing for GRE, GMAT, SAT, and TOEFL exams and sold around 500 CDs. That was 2001!
Fast forward to 2007, I decided to switch my career from industrial automation to information technology as that was something that I was always passionate about. I joined an information technology company called Cyberthink Infotech Pvt. Ltd. as a Business analyst with a condition that if I performed well, I should be given chance in the sales and marketing team of the company. In 2008, I was appointed as a business development executive and started doing online sales activities for the company. This was the position where I had to continuously be in touch with the development team and had to update the customers about the project’s progress. Closing a sale was not the end game for me!
A major change in my career came in 2010 when I started managing projects at Net4Nuts Ltd. In Net4Nuts I was given the opportunity and responsibility to start the company’s mobile app division as business development manager and project manager. I was bringing in the business, outsourcing it to another company in case of unavailability of resources, and also managing the in-house projects and development team. I founded Morpheous in 2011 and took the task to create and curate new and existing products. Morpheous is a SaaS development company that was also in mobile app and game development. This is where I started to envision various SaaS products and successfully launched them into the US market. By 2021 I had 60,000+ users using successful products that I have designed.
From Sales Engineer, Business Analyst, Business Development Manager, and Project Manager to Product Manager, I have seen my fair share of failures and successes. My future blogs will encompass my views on product management and all its nitty-gritty.
